Harstine Community Choir invites interested, musically inclined
individuals to join our choir. There is $5 membership to sing and a
suggested donation of $50, but all music
is provided. Tryouts are not required; however performance
participation is by audition to determine best voice placement.
We encourage you to join the choir. For more information, call Elizabeth,

Rehearsals begin with vocal exercises and educational
information about dynamics, vocal range, musicality and vocal
performance. We focus on improving our sound and mastering
challenging choral music.
Founded in 2004 by director
Elizabeth Berndt, the choir is dedicated to public music performance
and education. As a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization, the choir
works to promote the arts in our community, supporting music
programs in local schools, and community events. The choir performs
primarily for Mason County audiences, but reaches outside this area
through participation with other choral organizations such as the
men’s choir from Germany and choral exchanges with choirs such as
Masterworks Choral Ensemble. Varying in numbers from 35 to 55,
teenagers to retirees, the chorus has been entertaining people with
a broad variety of music from Madrigals to Hungarian and classical
masterworks to Broadway tunes. The choir features two concert series
a year, one the third weekend in May and another the second weekend
in December. Venues are chosen to provide the greatest access for
concert goers and traditionally include locations in Allyn, Shelton
and Harstine Island.
One of our
goals is to make singing and choral music a part of any interested
person’s life, so choir membership and performances are available on
a “donate as able” basis. Other than an honorarium to
instrumentalists, Harstine Island Community Choir is an
all-volunteer chorus with no paid positions of any kind. Finances
come from the choir’s fund-raiser selling fresh, roasted nuts in the
fall and through generous donations from music lovers like you.
